In all cases they've been selected with pre-teens in mind so the violence won't be unnecessarily excessive and the sex non-existent. I read Lloyd Alexander's fantasy cycle--The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer, and The High King--when I was, I'd say, about 9 or 10. Growing up, he was my preferred sword and sorcery writer with his Prydain Chronicles (The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer, and The High King). Just stopping by from the Book Blogger Hop. I know what you're thinking, I can feel it from here. The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander are five different books that follow the life of Taran, a young Assistant Pig-Keeper. The Chronicles of Prydain: The Book of Three (1964), The Black Cauldron (1965), The Castle of Llyr (1966), Taran Wanderer (1967), The High King (1968). I first read the five volumes of The Chronicles Of Prydain —The Book Of Three, The Black Cauldron , The Castle Of Llyr, Taran Wanderer, and The High King—when I was 8.
